When an county appoints a lawyer, the defendant is usually tasked with “conditions of pretrial release.” These are quasi-probation like conditions that require the defendant to comply with regular reporting, and to “stay out of trouble,” and other things (a defendant could be asked to take a drug or alcohol test).
