Phillip Sear plays his (slight) piano adaptation of a fascinating march from a set 'in the Gregorian spirit' for organ or harmonium by the French pianist and composer Hedwige Chrétien (1859–1944).

I find it strange that so little attention has been given to Chrétien (or Chrétien-Gennaro as she was sometimes known), compared with her almost exact contemporary Cécile Chaminade (1857 - 1944). The range and quantity of her output mirrors that of Chaminade. I guess that she didn't have the starry early patronage that Chaminade had - although César Franck described her as an outstanding student. She studied and became a teacher (of solfège) at the Paris Conservatoire, rather than a performer, and received some notice for her 'Ballet Orientale'.
This piece is far more modernistic than the other pieces in the set, and almost has oriental touches. It definitely deserves to be better known.
