Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Ustad Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Ustad Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.

An enchanting amalgamation of Raag Khamaaj, Raag Mand (Maand) , Raag Pahadi and Raag Bhatiyali (hence Raag Mishra (Mixture)) by Sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan at Bazm e Khas baithak.

Raag Khamaaj is light and captivating but not sombre. The mood of Raag Khamaj is well brought out when decorated with diverse Thumri styles of Punjab, Lucknow and Banaras Gharanas.

Raag Maand a playful and light melody which sounds natural but is rendered with much difficulty. Mostly, Bhajans and Gazals dominate the composition. The basic composition belongs to the folk tune of Mewar (Rajasthan).

Raga Pahadi is light and popular Raag based on folk music. As its name suggests, it originates from the mountainous region of Himalayas.

"Bhatiyali", the song of the river, sung by the river through her boatsmen and is related to the Mystic River. The music is inspired by the confluence of nature and expresses one’s pure love for his/her beloved through simple language.


This baithak was held at the initiative of Ved Gupta as a part of Bazm e Khas foundation live concerts.
