Glossary:
Burghers: a class of people who were typically of mixed European and Asian descent. These individuals often held significant economic and social influence during the colonial period, particularly in the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) and British Malaya (present-day Malaysia and Singapore).
Burghers in Southeast Asia were descendants of European traders, colonizers, and settlers who intermarried with local populations, creating a unique cultural and ethnic group. They often occupied positions of power and privilege within colonial society, serving as intermediaries between the colonial administrations and local populations. Many burghers were involved in trade, commerce, and administrative roles during the colonial era.
The Stadthuys: a historical structure situated in the heart of Malacca City, the administrative capital of the state of Melaka, Malaysia, in a place known as the Red Square. The Stadthuys is known for its red exterior and nearby red clocktower.
I like to share the beauty of houses of worship of all Faiths from everywhere I have the pleasure and luck to find myself in.
