⚔️ The Historical Event:
In 1346, during the Siege of Caffa (modern-day Feodosia in Crimea), the Mongol-led Golden Horde, under Janibeg Khan, was besieging the Genoese-controlled city. When an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague began devastating their own ranks, the Mongols found a grim solution:
They used catapults to hurl plague-infected corpses over the city walls.
This act is often cited by historians as one of the earliest recorded instances of biological warfare. The infected bodies spread the Black Death among defenders and traders, helping the plague eventually reach Europe, where it would kill an estimated 25–50 million people.
