A local court in Shopian has convicted a man in a ₹5 lakh cheque bounce case and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment. The judgment was pronounced on December 17 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian. The case, Shahnawaz Ahmed Bhat versus Bashir Ahmed Bhat, involved the issuance of a cheque towards a legally enforceable liability. The court observed that the cheque was dishonoured by the bank with the remark “Exceeds Arrangement,” leading to the conviction of the accused under the relevant provisions of law. The verdict highlights the seriousness of cheque dishonour cases and stresses the importance of financial responsibility.
