Several hundred protestors rallied in Berlin on Sunday against Joerg Haider's official trip to Germany, the first since his Freedom Party joined the new coalition government in Austria.

He was in Berlin for an interview at the German private television NTV.

The protestors gathered outside the Intercontinental Hotel in Berlin, where Haider was due to be interviewed by NTV.

They shouted slogans such as "Haider Out" and "Nazis Out", and carried banners against racism in Europe.

The protestors included members of youth groups such as the Young Socialists and the Young Greens.

A few of them threw stones and bottles, and three windows were broken.

But there was a large security presence and the police said the demonstration passed off fairly peacefully.

Haider, whose Freedom Party is a coalition partner in Austria's new government, is a guest on Erich Boehmes' new 'Talk in Berlin' political programme, to be broadcast on Sunday evening.

Haider will be interviewed by a German journalists, socialist politicians and a Jewish author.
