I found my childhood HP Pavilion in an e-waste bin and spent over 20 hours trying to turn it into the ultimate Windows XP gaming machine using era-appropriate hardware I had laying around the shop. But between fighting drivers, a bad install CD, and dealing with a 400MHz frontside bus, this project was a total retro tech nightmare.
We maxed out the RAM to 720MB of PC133 SDRAM, swapped in a Radeon 9250 256MB AGP video card, and even tried to cheat physics with a CF-to-IDE SSD adapter. But despite the upgrades and a bet involving a six-pack of Presidente, the reality of early 2000s hardware hit hard when I had to deal with insane input lag that I ran out of patience trying to troubleshoot.
SPECS
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz (400MHz Frontside Bus)
RAM: 768MB PC133 SDRAM
GPU: Radeon 9250 256MB AGP (Upgraded from an Nvidia Riva TNT2)
Storage: 8GB CF-to-IDE SSD / 40GB IDE HDD
OS: Windows XP Professional 32bit
Software: Bonzi Buddy 4.0, Winamp
