The International Cricket Council has rejected Bangladesh’s request to relocate its Men’s T20 World Cup matches out of India confirming that the tournament schedule and group structure will remain unchanged.
Bangladesh had refused to play its matches in India following political tensions and the release of player Mustafizur Rahman from his IPL franchise later formally asking the ICC to shift their fixtures to Sri Lanka.
However the ICC stated that after reviewing multiple security assessments including independent evaluations there was no credible threat to the safety of Bangladeshi players officials media or fans at any of the tournament venues in India.
The governing body said that changing venues at such a late stage would be impractical and would set a dangerous precedent potentially undermining the integrity and neutrality of future ICC events.
According to the ICC discussions were held with the Bangladesh Cricket Board over several weeks with the goal of ensuring Bangladesh’s participation in the tournament. But the ICC emphasized that Bangladesh’s position was tied to what it called a single isolated and unrelated domestic league issue which it said had no connection to tournament security or international event protocols.
As a result Bangladesh’s group-stage matches will go ahead as scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai with no changes to venues groups or fixtures.
The decision reinforces the ICC’s stance that political disputes and domestic league developments will not dictate international tournament structures unless there is a verified security risk.
