Proper subcooling improves system performance, enhances cooling capacity, and prevents compressor damage. Insufficient subcooling can lead to poor cooling and higher energy consumption, while excessive subcooling may indicate an overcharged system or restricted flow in the condenser.
Superheating happens when the refrigerant in the evaporator absorbs heat and rises above its boiling point before reaching the compressor. This ensures that only vapor, not liquid, enters the compressor, preventing damage and maintaining efficiency. Correct superheating prevents liquid refrigerant from causing compressor failure while ensuring maximum cooling. Too little superheating can lead to liquid slugging, while excessive superheating may indicate low refrigerant levels or airflow issues, reducing system efficiency. Both subcooling and superheating must be properly measured and adjusted for optimal HVAC performance in a car.
