Описание: Josef Gabriel Rheinberger hailed from the principality of Liechtenstein, but spent most of his career at the Munich Conservatory, and as Munich Court Conductor from 1877. He was everyone’s composition and counterpoint teacher, counting future musical titans such as Wilhelm Fürtwängler and Engelbert Humperdinck among his students. His choral works, along with Bruckner’s, are the best representatives of late-Romantic, German Catholic sacred music. Rheinberger pushed back against the forces for oversimplification if not banality in church music; even his simplest motets are contrapuntally elegant, finely-crafted jewels.
