This trip took me into Nicolet National Forest for a two-night winter hammock hot tent camp—and the weather didn’t ease into it.
I arrived in fog and rain. While setting up camp, temperatures dropped and the rain turned to snow. Overnight, that snow turned into a blizzard with high winds and falling trees, dropping about 7 inches by morning.
Inside the hot tent, I ran a titanium wood stove and used a hammock setup with an underquilt and 0°F sleeping bag. It was 32°F when I set up, but once the stove was rolling the tent warmed into the upper 60s. Overnight lows inside dropped into the 20s, and the final morning hit 10°F—cold enough to make getting out of the sleeping bag a real decision.
This video shows:
Winter hammock hot tent camping in real conditions
Managing heat, firewood, and water during a storm
Cooking real meals on the stove (steak, eggs, oatmeal, coffee)
Snowfall, wind, and overnight decision-making
Lessons learned about winter rigging, frozen knots, and camp teardown
This wasn’t about pushing limits—it was about preparation, pacing, and respecting winter conditions.
Thanks for watching.
