Описание: Somewhere today, someone will turn down a raise to "stay in a lower tax bracket." When a national tax-literacy poll asked how brackets actually work, 51% of people got it wrong. So we ran the real math — to the dollar.

THE MATH, WRITTEN DOWN (free, sources included): https://ranthenumbershq.com/tax-brack... — the dollar-by-dollar table, the 2026 bracket lines, and the honest benefit-cliffs caveat.

0:26 The myth (and how it would work if it were real)

1:33 The raise, run to the dollar ($65K to $70K)
2:58 Where the fear is almost right (benefit cliffs)

The numbers, on the record (2026, single filer, IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32): standard deduction $16,100 · brackets apply to TAXABLE income: 10% to $12,400, 12% to $50,400, 22% to $105,700. The example: a $65,000 salary offered $70,000 = taxable income $48,900 to $53,900, crossing the 22% line at $50,400. Extra federal income tax: $180 (the $1,500 still in the 12% bracket) + $770 (the $3,500 above the line at 22%) = $950. Take-home rises $4,050 — 81% of the raise survives. The myth's version would DROP take-home by $1,238. That has never been how it works.

Benefit cliffs are the honest exception — some programs cut off sharply at income lines. That's program design, not brackets; if your household is near one, talk to a professional with this year's numbers.
