In 2008, Bill learned he suffered from end-stage kidney failure, and by 2010, he needed a kidney transplant. Julie didn’t hesitate and said she would be happy to donate one of her kidneys to her friend. Unfortunately, she was not a good match for him. The two would need to explore other options so that Julie could still provide Bill with the gift of life.
While the team of the UW Health Transplant Program and UW Organ and Tissue Donation have helped grieving families, living donors and transplant recipients through the hardest time of their lives, we know that the real courage lies in the patients and families themselves.
