Macron gives honour to last newspaper hawker in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron has bestowed one of France’s most prestigious civilian honours on Ali Akbar, a 74-year-old newspaper vendor who has spent more than 50 years selling newspapers across Paris’ historic Latin Quarter. Akbar was awarded the Knight of the Grand Order of Merit at the Élysée Palace, recognising his distinguished service and unique contribution to French public life.
