Have you ever wondered if you might be delusional? Or what it means for someone else to be delusional? Lisa Bortolotti is a philosopher of mind who has spent much of her career exploring and understanding the nature of belief and subsequently delusions. In her book why delusions matter, Lisa offers accounts as to how delusions have typically been defined. She then goes onto provide suggestions as to how delusions might be better thought of. In doing so, Lisa shows how delusions, in often having meaning for the person, should not be discarded. Rather, we should make efforts to bridge understandings and help people stay tethered to epistemic projects and environments.
If you are interested in Lisa work then you can find her book Why Delusions Matter on Amazon.
Lisa also has available papers which are free to read online, e.g The epistemic innocence of motivated delusions.
