Music is the language of the soul, it has a unique and special ability to connect directly to the soul to bring joy, soothe sorrows, relieve stress and stir the emotions.

Along with Albert Orsborn, John Gowans was a poet General. He has left a legacy of lyrics which communicate the unmerited, unconditional and unending love of God….. “God loves everyone and God loves ME!” Simple to say, perhaps it sounds naïve, but we as Jesus followers know that even when life gets rough the boundless love of God is strong enough to bring us through terrible and tragic times which without Him would be unbearable.

Gowans was keenly aware that millions of people live their lives thinking that God, if there even is a God, cannot or will not or must not love them. So he wrote love songs to communicate this love that is ‘as high as the sky and as deep as the sea’. This song, “Someone Cares”, is arguably one of his most popular songs in Salvation Army circles because most of us at one time or another can answer ‘yes’ to it’s opening questions and need reminding that someone cares…..namely God.
