We visited La Gacilly in June 2022. It is a pretty little town with flower lined streets all along the Aff river. Located at the border between the breton departments of Ille-et-Vilaine and Morbihan, La Gacilly is a village with beautiful breton architecture where charming stone buildings house arts and craft workshops.
All summer, La Gacilly's gardens and alleyways and the walls of its houses turn into photo galleries dedicated to street art. Between June and September every year, France's biggest outdoor festival of photography presents ethical and humanistic images that have caught the eye of the great international photographers. The La Gacilly Festival of Photography attracts over 40,000 visitors to its 30 or so exhibitions.
Painters, engravers, glassmakers, weavers, wood turners, sculptors and potters… Over the last four decades, some 180 craftsmen, professional artisans and artists have demonstrated their talent. Nowadays, some 30 studio-boutiques are open all year round in the historic heart of the village.
