The body of an animal is divided into several portions by different planes. These plains include:
The median plane which divides the body into two equal left and right halves
The Tranverse plane which divides the body into cranial and caudal portions
The Sagittal plane which divides the body into two unequal left and right halves
The frontal plane which divides the body into dorsal and ventral portions.
Several terms are used to describe the anatomical positioning of an organ or structure on the body of an animal, or the positioning in relation to another organ. These terms include:
Dorsal, ventral, cranial, caudal, Lateral, medial, proximal, distal, superior, Inferior, Supra, infra, axial, abaxial, palmar and plantar.
This video gives a run through of these planes and descriptive terms using the 3-D Bovine anatomy app by biosphera. Enjoy the video and stay focused till the end.
