How Ukraine Fooled Russia’s S-300 & Su-35 in 930km Drone Strike
In one of the most sophisticated long-range operations of the war, Ukraine launched a coordinated drone strike nearly 930 km inside Russian territory. But before the real attack drones reached their target, a wave of radar-enhanced decoy drones forced Russia’s Buk-M2, Tor-M2, and S-300 air defense systems to react.
Millions of dollars in missiles were fired at lightweight decoys equipped with Luneburg lenses, designed to mimic cruise missiles on radar. As Su-35 fighter jets scrambled and air defense systems went into weapons hold mode, a corridor opened.
Flying just 20 meters above the terrain, Ukrainian AN-196 “Lutyi” strike drones exploited the gap using SkyNode terrain-matching navigation — bypassing GPS jamming and electronic warfare.
The result: a devastating explosion at the 100th GRAU Arsenal, reportedly destroying ammunition stockpiles and possibly North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles.
This video breaks down:
• How decoy drones manipulated layered air defense
• Why Buk and S-300 systems struggled
• The tactical impact of weapons hold doctrine
• How terrain-matching drones bypass modern radar networks
• What this means for the future of drone warfare
Modern warfare is no longer just about firepower — it's about systems, deception, and timing.
