I Turned a $30 Streaming Box Into a Powerhouse - Onn 4K + Stremio + Debrid Setup!
I’ve got a few old Roku TVs lying around—probably like most people. They were gifted to me, passed down, or just kind of showed up in my house over the years. And yeah, they technically still work… but they’re painfully slow. You click something and then wait. And wait. And wait again.

If you’ve ever tried to do anything remotely advanced on a Roku, you know it’s basically impossible. It's a locked-down system designed for people who just want to hit Netflix and chill. That’s cool for some folks, but I like to tinker. I want control. I want the ONN 4K Plus from Walmart!

So when I started seeing the Onn 4K Streaming Box all over the place—just 30 bucks, running Android 14 with Google TV—I had to try it.
And let me tell you… I was not disappointed.
For the price, this little box packs more punch than it should. We’re talking:
Quad-core processor
2 gigs of RAM
16 gigs of storage
Dolby Vision and Atmos
Even WiFi 6
You don’t usually see that in the sub-$50 range, let alone at $30.

Setup is simple. Plug it in, throw in the batteries for the remote, walk through the usual Wi-Fi and Google sign-in steps, and you’re good. The UI is clean and fast—Google TV has come a long way. If you’re already familiar with Android, you’ll be flying through it.
That said… it’s got a lot of extra stuff. Ads. Recommendations. Bloat. It’s not awful, but if you’re like me and you want something clean and focused—you’re gonna want to tweak it.
Which is where the fun begins.

In the video, I walk through how to install Stremio (my go-to media app), set up Torrentio with Real-Debrid (basically a cloud-based torrent streaming system), and how to keep things private and secure with a VPN. I used Surfshark, but you can use whatever you’re comfortable with.
The setup also includes customizing the interface with Projectivy Launcher, and using Button Mapper to assign the remote's star button to instantly launch Stremio. It all works seamlessly once you get it dialed in.
You’ll need a PC for a quick part of the setup—just to install Stremio and configure the Torrentio add-on. Nothing crazy, takes a few minutes. Once that’s done, everything syncs to the Onn box like magic (as long as you’re on the same network).
One small gripe: there’s no extra USB port. So if you need more storage, grab a splitter (I linked one I use in the description). Easy fix.
All in all, this little $30 box absolutely punches above its weight. It’s fast, it’s flexible, and it actually lets you take control—something that’s becoming rare with modern streaming devices.
If you’re a casual streamer, it’ll do the job right out of the box. But if you’re the kind of person who likes to tweak, mod, and make it your own? This is one of the best budget devices out there right now.
