What does it take to transform a MUN team into an international powerhouse?
In this 5th episode of MUN Deep Dive, I sit down with Rae Briard, an educator who led Branksome Hall Asia’s MUN program from modest beginnings in Korea to becoming a household name on the international circuit. Under her leadership, BHAMUN went from little recognition to winning multiple awards at major conferences across Asia.
Rae shares the “secret sauce” behind this transformation, and it’s not what you might think. She emphasizes the power of student advocacy, giving students ownership by letting them choose conferences and lead their own growth. She also highlights the importance of student connections, reminding her delegates that relationships and learning matter more than trophies. Behind the scenes, Rae constantly sharpened her own skills through trainings with Best Delegate, ensuring her coaching was at a high level.
We also reflect on the differences between the MUN landscape in Korea and in Latin America, where Rae now teaches, and what those contrasts reveal about student engagement and opportunity. Plus, Rae and I talk about the unique privilege of taking our respective teams to the same conferences in Japan and Thailand, and how those shared experiences helped shape both our approaches to MUN.
Whether you’re an MUN director, a student leader, or simply curious about how educational programs can thrive, Rae’s story is both practical and inspiring.
