I’m thinking ‘bout what I’m guilty of
As I walk into the night
Taking for granted the ones I love
My blessings and my light
I whisper a foxhole prayer
Every skeptics desperate measure
Throwing promises into thin air
Cutting deals for what I treasure

I’m walking toward something
I can’t see
Calling to a creature
Who most likely can’t hear me
Me of little faith, me of fear and doubt
Whistling in the dark, till my time runs out

Something rustles in the brambles
I look back, it’s my old dog
He wags at me as he ambles
He’s been back there all along
I forget that he’s a shepherd
Which I guess makes me his lamb
Watched over and treasured
Beloved just as I am.
