The fashion industry is a major part of the UK economy. There are two major legal issues when it comes to the fashion industry. They are intellectual property and contracts. Fashion is a business just like any other and the success of any business depends on the strength of its contracts and of its contractual relationships. When it comes to fashion it is all about contracts, contracts and contracts! The typical contracts you see within the fashion industry are; supply contracts, terms and conditions contracts, and creative services contracts between the companies and the models or between the companies and the designers. The important thing to understand is that if you are in the fashion industry your contracts need to be as tight as they can possibly be.

The second biggest legal issue within the fashion world is intellectual property. There are various different types of IP that fall within this industry. The main ones are copyright and design right in relation to designs, and trademarks for fashion brands and fashion logos.
