This train represents a once common sight, transporting a load of coal en route
from South Wales to London.
It has probably been remarshalled at Severn Tunnel Junction and is on its way to
Acton yard, where it will be split up and portions delivered to coal yards across London.
Trains of this kind were once an everyday sight, not only on the GWR but also on the
northern main lines leading into London.
The train is composed of about eighty wagons, of varying sizes and capacities, and so is carrying about 800 to 900 tons of coal and has a total weight of 13-1400 tons.
