Scotchtown & slave family research with Jennifer Hurst-Wender & Andi Cumbo-Floyd
In this episode, we spoke with Jennifer Wender-Hurst (Preservation Virginia) and writer/editor Andi Cumbo-Floyd about the work they are doing researching and documenting the lives of the enslaved people held at Scotchtown in Beaverdam, Hanover County, Virginia. This work is part of a project spearheaded by Preservation Virginia (https://preservationvirginia.org).
Jennifer and Andi discuss the process of researching a community of enslaved people to find and contact their descendants, and the work that goes into achieving that goal. Both also chat about research strategies - and share some important research resources.
