In this MPF webinar, we’ll explore the unique world of lichens, including what a lichen is and how lichen function, as well as their role in our prairie landscapes, with focus on some characteristic and unusual lichens of MPF sites.
Douglas Ladd is a conservation biologist and plant ecologist with more than 40 years of work in fire ecology and management, conservation planning, natural area assessment, and ecological management, restoration, and research. He served as conservation director for The Nature Conservancy’s Missouri program for 32 years, with emphasis on vegetation, floristics, ecological restoration, lichens, and fire ecology. He is currently a research associate at the Missouri Botanical Garden, and a senior lecturer at Washington University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in conservation biology, ecology, and botany. Author of more than 50 scientific journal articles and numerous technical reports, essays, and publications, he has also written two plant field guides — Tallgrass Prairie Wildflowers and North Woods Wildflowers.
