"For a long time I have wanted to do a continuing series about well-known photographers and how they approach their craft. My concept was to shoot with respected contemporary photographers and through conversations, both in the field and afterward, learn more about their history, success and philosophy toward their craft.

We kick off the Masters Series with William Neill. William is a frequent contributor on LuLa as well as a regular writer for Outdoor Photographer. Two years ago I asked William to join us on a LuLa Antarctica trip where I got to chat with him and watch how he approached that particular environment. William has shared a number of those images with our readers in a recent article, Antarctica Dreams. It was on this trip that I hatched the idea of doing this series.

Several months later Chris Sanderson and I caught up with William and spent five days with him in Yosemite Valley and surrounding locations. We were challenged with brilliant blue skies and sunny days—not my favorite light to shoot in. It was a valuable experience to see how William met these challenges.

In this 5-part video series you’ll watch William and I photograph a number of locations and discuss what we are seeing and our approach to capturing the moment. We kick off with Parts One and Two of a five part video interview made in our cabin just outside Yosemite National Park on the second day. In subsequent videos you’ll follow us to different locations and see how we set up a variety of shots and why."
