This video will tell you about my experience when i first visited Padila Mahadev Temple, which is located at the outskirts of Prayagraj.
Located in Thervai gaon in Phaphamau locality, this temple was once the centre of hundreds year old tradition known as Panchkosi Parikrama.
When Allahabad was under the control of Maratha empire, they rebuilt many of the auspicious temple scattered around the city such as Nagvasuki temple, Alopi devi, Padila Mahadev etc.
Various events like 1857 war, rise of British empire and associated town planning, led to the decline in status of this temple. However history did not completely forgot this place. Still local people visit this temple during Shivratri and Savan to attend mela (fair).
A must visit for someone who really want to understand the culture and history of Prayagraj.
An added benefit of visiting this area is the old airport which was constructed by the British empire and was last used in 1942, during the second world war. The latest and greatest fighter airplanes of the mightiest empire of the world were flown from this airport.
Even now, the Indian government is planning to use this airport for emergency use and for logistical convenience.
