The Philippine presidential palace responded to Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste’s claim that the country is under “de facto martial law” without an official declaration, with Malacañang press officers saying not every opinion merits a response and denying that critics are being silenced or that martial law exists. Leviste had argued that critics are reluctant to speak out amid political pressure, but the government maintained normal governance continues and emphasised legal process and law enforcement remain in place.
