Chilean sailor "comes out" publicly with the official approval of the Chilean Navy

Описание: (27 Aug 2014) A Chilean marine announced that he was gay in front of reporters gathered in Santiago on Wednesday, after being granted permission by the Navy to come out publicly.
Standing with his boyfriend, 24-year-old Mauricio Ruiz was presented with a rainbow flag outside of the MOVILH (Movement for Integration and Homosexual Liberation) offices in the Chilean capital on Wednesday.
"I personally hope that this will be a contribution to non-discrimination in my society. I think that people who are homosexual have no reason to hide," Ruiz told reporters.
MOVILH President Rolando Jimenez sat alongside Ruiz and expressed his gratitude to the Chilean Navy.
He said that allowing Ruiz to be open about his sexuality was showing, "that it is possible for gays and lesbians to be part of the armed forces and that they aren't going to suffer discrimination because of their sexual orientation within these institutions."
Ruiz works in naval operations in the neighbouring port to Valparaiso, 120 kilometres (75 miles) north-west of Santiago.
