So in this video tutorial, we are going to disable the Windows Update. Because we know the issue or error we have received while updating the system or installing patches. To disable Win Update, you first need to get to this advanced boot menu, and then open get the access to command prompt.

Now in order to get to the advanced boot menu, we need either an installation CD or a Bootable USB of same operating system installed on your system. I had Windows 8 installed on my system so I am using Windows 8 Bootable USB. You can use either one of them. The method is same for both.

Once you are ready with installation CD insert it into CD ROM or Plug in the Bootable USB Stick. Start your system press the boot menu key. Boot Menu options key varies per manufacturer.

These are common boot menu options key that you can use to get the Boot Menu.
You can even identify what Key is used to get the Boot Menu by simply paying attention. When you start your system, it displays the detail for about 2-3 seconds. In my case its ESC.

Select the boot device. As I am using bootable USB for windows 8, I am going to select Removable Devices. You can use as per your choice.

Once you select the boot device, your system will start boot from the selected device. Press any key to continue and you will end up on this screen. Click next and click on "Repair your computer"

Click on Troubleshoot. Then select Advanced Options and then select Command Prompt. If you are using Windows 7 disc, then you might get the Command Prompt option at the begining it self.

Now is the real task to perform. Once we get the access to command prompt, we are now going to disable the windows updates, that has caused this whole mess. So we need to gain access to msconfig console. To have it, type msconfig -

Go to Services tab, scroll down to the bottom and find the service "Windows Update" and to disable windows update, simply uncheck the option, click on apply and ok. Restart your system and it wont initiate to install any pending updates as it has been turned off.

Well there is a simple way of doing this method instead of going into advanced boot menu. You can simply gain access to safe mode. Login with administrator account. From there you can disable windows update using msconfig. But as we know windows, not every one is fortune enough that it let you have access to safe mode. Right. Then there comes this little lenghty but efficient method.
