On 19 January 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Nitin Nabin as its new National President. Nitin Nabin is not a sudden or unfamiliar face in the party—he has worked within the BJP’s organization for many years.
At just 45 years of age, he brings nearly 20 years of political experience. He has been elected five times as an MLA from Bihar and is known for his strong understanding of both party organization and governance. He is also credited with playing a key role in the BJP’s victory in the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections and the party’s major win in Delhi.
When the BJP was founded in 1980, it had only two Members of Parliament. The party’s first president, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, famously said, “The darkness will fade, and the lotus will bloom.” Under Lal Krishna Advani, the BJP grew stronger and eventually rose to power.
In the years that followed, leaders like Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Amit Shah, and J. P. Nadda further strengthened the party. Today, the BJP is in power at the Centre and in several states.
At this stage, the party was looking for a young yet seasoned leader who understands both strategy and organization—which is why Nitin Nabin emerged as the BJP’s first choice for National President.
