Build without looking? Instruct without speaking? How good are professional LEGO designers like Design Master Mike Psiaki and Design Manager Crystal Fontan at playing Brick Like This!, the fast-paced party game that’s about communication as much as it’s about your LEGO brick skills…?
The new party game that’s sure to be a hit with LEGO fans, Brick Like This! launched recently and Graham E. Hancock, Editor of Blocks, the monthly LEGO magazine, and author of LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity, is challenging professional LEGO designers to play a round.
In Brick Like This!, one person is the instructor and has a card with a brick pattern on it – the builder must replicate that pattern without getting to see it. Then the challenge cards make it even harder – they might tell you not to speak, to build with your eyes closed, to build without your thumbs… some of them are harder than they sound!
Of course these guys are the pros, so they know their way around the LEGO terminology. But how are they at building under pressure and with limitations?
Design Manager Crystal Fontan, Design Master Mike Psiaki, Design Master Yoel Mazur, Senior Designer Marina Stampoli, Designer Atticus Tsai-McCarthy, Designer Nathan Don, Designer and LEGO Masters veteran David Guedes, Designer Jae Won Lee, Designer Lisa Waggner, Designer Isabelle van Vleuten, Designer Blair Archer, Quality Director Helle Liltorp Johnson and LEGO House Senior Technology Engineer Jesper Skjærris Derdau all try their hand at the tricky task.
Even Chief Product & Marketing Officer, Executive Vice President Julia Goldin kindly takes a few minutes out of her busy schedule to play a round of Brick Like This!.
You can win your own copy of Brick Like This! to play with friends, family or fellow LEGO enthusiasts. Asmodee has provided THREE copies of the game for Blocks, the monthly LEGO magazine, to give away.
All you need to do is sign up to our FREE newsletter. That’s it! Everyone who signs up before 11.59pm (UK time) on September 22 will be in with a chance of winning. Three winners will be drawn at random and contacted after that date.

In the video, Graham just plays with one person at a time – but in the actual game, you have multiple pairs competing. There are different cards with different numbers of bricks in the patterns; if you try a harder card, then you can win more points. Challenge cards then add an extra level of difficulty to the round – but you can earn extra points by playing the challenge cards.
When one team declares that they’ve finished, it’s time to flip a 30 second sand timer – the other teams must try to finish before it runs out. Every team that successfully matches what is on their build card get points! When all rounds are played, it’s time to add up the points and see who are the winners of Brick Like This!.
In the video, the LEGO design professionals know all of the correct terminology for the elements, which makes things a bit easier. When playing with friends and family who aren’t deep into the LEGO hobby though, people come up with all sorts of wild names for the pieces and you have to decode what they are referring to.
