West Africa Overland #1 | The Gambia 🇬🇲

Описание: My journey begins in The Gambia — the “Smiling Coast” — where I spend one fast-paced day diving straight into the chaos, colour, and coastline.

First stop: Banjul. Dusty streets, faded colonial buildings, busy markets, and the Atlantic breeze rolling in by the port. It’s small for a capital, but it pulses with character — street vendors calling out and taxis weaving through traffic.

I even catch a glimpse of Adama Barrow passing through with his convoy — not something you see every day travelling solo.

Next, I head to Cape Point, where the Atlantic crashes against the rocks and locals gather along the shoreline. It’s raw, windy, and feels like the true edge of the country.

From there, I make my way to Senegambia — a totally different vibe— a sharp contrast to the dusty streets of the capital.

I’m travelling overland across West Africa the hard way — no tour guides, no private drivers — just shared taxis, motorbike taxis, jungle roads, and border chaos.

From The Gambia, I cross into Ziguinchor in Senegal’s Casamance region. From there, I squeeze into crowded sept-places and battered bush taxis heading toward Bissau, navigating checkpoints and long, dusty highways.

After Bissau, things get rough.

I push on toward Gandembel, where paved roads disappear and the real adventure begins — red dirt tracks cutting through thick jungle, overloaded motorbike taxis, river crossings, and long stretches completely off the tourist map.

Next stop: Boké, where the landscape shifts again and the journey becomes a test of patience, negotiation skills, and sheer endurance.

Finally, after days of cramped shared taxis, breakdowns, crooked coppers, and chaotic border crossings, I reach Conakry — dusty, loud, alive, and completely unforgettable.

This is overland travel in West Africa — raw, unpredictable, and real.
