The factory muffler was rusting out on my 1993 F350 7.3 n/a, and the newer exhaust pipe someone fabbed for it was so restricted (1 1/2" at the elbow!), I chopped it all off, went to O'Reilly's to put together an axle dump exhaust in stock 2.25" diameter pipe, and now she screams! It's still very mellow at low rpm, around town cruising, but gets good and rowdy around 2600-3000 rpm. I do not know for sure what RPM the cackle sound starts, my tach isn't very reliable, but it feels around that range. Engine vibrations smooth out and power drops down over 3-grand.
