In this episode we sit down at the dominoes table with Bahamian-American multimedia artist, filmmaker and Syracuse University Professor Tamika Galanis. We got to discuss her art exhibition "The Constituency" (a collection in her ongoing series "Hacking the narrative").
Galanis work explores the concept of researching, documenting and archiving Bahamian culture and experiences by looking at through a futuristic frame.
As a historian, Galanis shares the deep history of Bahamians from Junkanoo, tourism economy to the joys of Bahamians daily lives on the island.
Her work raises awareness to growing concerns of displacement, environmental disasters, cultural preservation, diasporic disconnection/reconnection and exploitative tourism institution happening in the Bahamas as well as the entire Caribbean region.
