We are sunshine grifters
hoping to break eventide,
waving at the drifters
in the lowlight oceanside.
We deadbolt both our eyes
until the clouds subside,
and yet to our surprise,
there’s a light on inside.
We all break under pressure
to expose the warmth we hide,
unfurling shells of treasure
in the home where we reside.
