Phillip Sear plays an enjoyable piece in a vaguely classical style by the German composer, pianist and organist Anton Schmoll (1841-19??).

Schmoll abandoned an early career as a mining engineer to become a musician. He settled in France in the 1860s, eventually living in Paris, where he became a friend of Heller. He was also interested in astronomy and metaphysics, and was a member of the circle of Camille Flammarion. You can read a fascinating article written during his lifetime here: http://bit.ly/1mi5ofl . This piece was played from an 1899 collection of studies and exercises compiled by the American pianist Ernst Kroeger (1862-1934) - so I am not sure of its opus number. Kroeger gives the following (to me) amusing comment on the piece: "Play in a joyful, spirited manner. Well rendered, this piece ought to be an acceptable composition for public performance." I certainly hope he is right!
