In the 1989 Paris Dakar Rally, the teams departed Paris on Christmas Day for a 20-day Paris-Dakar Rally expedition which would travel almost 11,000kms across seven countries. Ari Vatanen and Dakar veteran Jacky Ickx would lead the Peugeot charge, pushing the 405 T16 to the limit across the treacherous African landscape, chased throughout by the Mitsubishi Pajeros. But it wasn't easiest of starts for Vatanen, who rolled his Peugeot during the opening prologue stage!
