The 1000 Miglia (thousand miles) is an endurance race started in 1927 and was conceived by two your Counts Francesco Mazzotti and Aymo Maggi. Between 1953 until 1957 it was part of the World Sports Car Championship. The race is from Brescia in the north of Italy to Rome (Roma) and back, starting and finishing in Viale Venezia in Brescia. To enter all cars need to be made prior to 1957, and all cars need to have either entered the race or been registered to enter. In 1957 the race was stopped, although a modified race limiting the cars to the road speed limit did take place until 1961. Since 1977 the race was revived and is now one of the best classic car races in the world.

In its pre 1957 history over 56 people have been killed, 24 drivers/co-drivers and 32 spectators.
