Over 100 Killed in Lahaina Wildfire, Becoming the Deadliest U.S. Wildfire in More Than a Century

Описание: Recovery efforts continue on the Island of Maui where at least 114 people were killed and thousands displaced after a wind driven wildfire devastated the historic town of Lahaina. A separate wildfire burned at least 19 homes in Upcountry Kula and firefighters continue to work to extinguish isolated hotspots in the area. Maui emergency officials did not sound the outdoor warning siren system to warn residents and tourists. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation. Crews continue to search for missing people and the death toll is anticipated to climb. Lahaina is a national historic landmark and the former capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Significant Native Hawaiian cultural artifacts and historic sites have been lost along with the homes and businesses.
