Shedding light on the deplorable conditions faced by women prisoners in most Indian jails, the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Amitava Roy Committee report has highlighted some key concerns. Overcrowding; lack of access to sanitary pads and other medical aids; limited interaction with their children, only accessible behind a glass panel. Women in Indian prisons fare far worse than male prisoners, according to the report. Article 14 spoke to two experts on women’s health in Indian jails and the need for prison reforms.
