After my live interview with CNN, I recorded this follow-up from Odesa to expand on what’s unfolding: a severe cold snap spreading across much of Ukraine, with temperatures forecast to plunge toward -20°C in the coming days. When extreme cold collides with damage to energy infrastructure, the consequences quickly become life-threatening - especially for families without stable heat, power, or water.
But there’s another alarming development here in Odesa: Russian drones are slipping through air defenses, in some cases reaching targets without the usual warning signs. The message is chilling - no inch of Ukraine feels safe right now.
Even the Odesa headquarters of the United Nations has not been spared. And when international institutions and civilian infrastructure are exposed, it underscores the scale of vulnerability facing the country this winter.
As this war nears its fourth year, Ukrainians are being pushed into brutal, deeply personal decisions: how long can they endure this - and when does staying become too risky?
