Описание: Στον Ζωολογικό Κήπο της Κολωνίας, συναντήσαμε την ΒΑΚΤΡΙΑΝΗ ΚΑΜΗΛΑ. Πατρίδα της είναι η ιστορική περιοχή ΒΑΚΤΡΙΑ γνωστή από την εκστρατεία του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου, την οποία οι Πέρσες αποκαλούσαν " Βασίλειο των χιλίων πόλεων ".Απο την περιοχή αυτή ήταν οι καμήλες του Περσικού στρατού αλλά και του στρατού του Μ.Αλεξανδρού ο οποίος μετά την κατάλυση της Περσικής Αυτοκρατορίας έφθασε στην Βάκτρια το 330 πχ.
Η εξημερωμένη Βακτριανή καμήλα ( Camelus bactrianus)με την αντοχή της στο κρύο την ξηρασία και το υψόμετρο συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στην πραγματοποίηση των μεγάλων ταξιδιών των καραβανιών στον θρυλικό "Δρόμο του Μεταξιού ".
Η Άγρια Βακτριανή Καμήλα (Camelus bactrianus ferus) έχει συρικνωμένο πληθυσμό που αριθμεί λιγότερες από χίλιες καμήλες και γιαυτό το λόγο έχει την όγδοη θέση στον παγκόσμιο πίνακα των άκρως απειλούμενων με εξαφάνιση ειδών του πλανήτη.

we are at the Cologne Zoo in Germany. We met a large mammal, the Bactrian Camel. Camel's homeland is the historic region of BACTRIA, which is known from the campaign of Alexander the Great which the Persians called "the Kingdom of a thousand cities". From this area came the camels of the Persian army but also of the army of Alexander the Great, who after the overthrow of the Persian Empire arrived in Bactria in 330 BC.
The domesticated Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) with its resistance to cold and drought and the altitude contributed decisively to the realization of the great journeys of the caravans on the legendary "Silk Road". The Wild Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus ferus) has a shrinking population of less than a thousand camels and is therefore the eighth most endangered species on the planet.
