Between mind and rest
The divide is too deep,
Gazing at the inside
Of closed eyelids,
Enveloped in shrouds
Of silence
And darkness,
The two-faced traitors
Who veil the world
While laying a safety net
For escaping thoughts
And renegade memories
To jump onto,
And spread.
Soft the voice that shepherds turmoil
Back to the home of dreams,
And Benevolence is her name,
“Calm” the word that descended
From her lips.
Silk made the fingers
That carried its warmth
From her heart
To the riot
Of his night.
And though the angel lays
Peacefully in his wake,
Still this brother cannot sleep
For he thinks and counts
To exhaustion of the sheep,
Between mind and rest,
The divide
