brahma sutram - paadangalaana padinaaril - 16 gunams in 16 paadams.
3rd adhyaayam shows that brahmam is upaayam - only if this athma is nityam i.e. jeevan exists can we do upaasanam to attain Him - if not in one janmam, at least in some subsequent one (as sareeram is not nityam). He does nirvaaham of this lokam/samsaaram (including protecting us across all avasthais - jaagra, svapna, sushupthi, moorchaa avasthais) where we exist and expend our punya/paapams so He can then take us up to Him... Despite being with us, no doshams stick to Him and instead He shines with kalyaana gunams so we can do His aashryam and do dhyaanam/upaasanam and is ubhaya lingan. Our upaaya virodhi paapams prevent our upaasanam - by being bahu bhajana padam, He accepts in whatever way we can do His bhajanam. The angam for this is our varnaashrama dharmam which He accepts, so our virodhi paapams which prevent our upaasanam go away.
