Early September in southern Algonquin Park, I set out solo from Smoke Lake on a 4-day, 3-night kayak and portaging trip. My route took me through Little Raccoon Lake, Lake Louisa, and Lac Bonnechere — with rugged portages, incredible wildlife, and a few surprises along the way.
From the Devil’s Staircase portage to sunrise loon calls, this trip had everything: tough carries, quiet lakes, curious otters, and peaceful campsites deep in the backcountry.
If you love canoe tripping, backcountry camping, or exploring Algonquin’s quieter routes, this video’s for you.
