Langenau with its 15,000 inhabitants is located on the idyllic borders of the Swabian Alb mountain range and the impressive Danube wetlands. The idyllic Lone Valley is just around the corner – the archaeological finds in the numerous caves have made them world-famous amongst scientists. The attractive landscape is ideal for hiking and cycling and the numerous hotels and restaurants offer comfort and hospitality. Langenau is also a good starting point for a cycling trip along the Danube.
Friends of Nature have a hut at the source of the Nau river – just one of so many in Langenau. The former bog landscape in the Langenauer Ried nature reserve is home to numerous animal and plant species. The Danube wetlands (Donauried) supply drinking water to the Landeswasserversorgung water company and thus are one of Europe’s largest water reservoirs. Beside Langenau boasts centrally located indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
The varied and nationally renowned cultural programme of the Pfleghof hall offers cabarets, concerts, readings and lectures. The annual children’s festival is a long-established tradition. The convivial get-together near the Ach river is a reminder of the custom of driving wooden troughs (used for slaughtering pigs) on the Ach river and alternates with the tower festival around St. Martin’s church.
Only 20 km away from the Legoland family amusement park in Günzbürg and 17 km from Ulm with its delightful old town and the Ulm cathedral, Langenau is an ideal base for trips around the region. Thanks to the excellent transport network, Langenau is an ideal starting point for day trips to Stuttgart, Munich, Augsburg, to the Allgäu and Lake Constance.
