@MarkWintleFishing Back in the mid to late 1980s Daiwa developed the Armlock handle. The patent ran out nearly 20 years ago though they still hold the trademark name. Since then Preston Innovations and Colmic have copied this idea, first thought of by Roy Marlow of the Leicester Likely Lads, and put it on some of their rods.
The idea is simple enough, a flattened section of handle that sits under the forearm that improves the feel of the rod when fishing, and Daiwa continues to use this on their more expensive rods.
I decided to have a go at converting three of my match rods (Normark Titan 2000, Normark Avenger 2000, Tricast John Allerton Premier Matrch) to have this feature. I bought high quality corks from www.rodringsandthings.co.uk, developed a method drilling out the corks with a 14mm wood bit and replaced the existing handle with the new corks, finally shaping the corks with a rasp and file. The end result, together with the cork hood makes the handle incredibly comfortable to use.
Have you ever done this?
